She teaches and implements a higher level interdisciplinary curriculum with an emphasis in language arts, social studies, media and the arts due to her background in journalism, history and research based studies on the impact of art on the brain. Ms. Johnson has a B.A. in Communications with a minor in History. Her professional training includes working with gifted learners to overcome challenges and disabilities as well as teaching bilingual and culturally diverse populations. With experience in developing innovative experiential learning curriculum materials, she specializes in interdisciplinary and creative arts based educational models.

Praxis I qualified with combined score of 520 for DC's teacher certification exams. Taught as student teacher for 5th grade at Oyster Adams-Bilingual Elementary school. Created lesson plans of study on the life of African Americans during the Civil War to Civil Rights era. Created study program for standardize test taking strategies for DC CAS exams and developed reading program for students reading below proficient standards.

Related Experiences: He is the author/coauthor of six books and frequent national and international lecturer on an array of historical topics. He has appeared several times on the History Channel, French and Belgian television, and wrote, researched and narrated "Sketches in Color," a 13-part companion series to the PBS series, "The Civil War," for WHUT-TV, the Howard University television station.
The Smithsonian Institution's Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture features Gibbs among its scholars at the museum's Online Academy website. In 1989, he founded the African History and Culture Lecture Series whose scholars continue to provide free presentations at libraries, churches, and other locations in the Washington-Baltimore area. In 1997, he led 26 people across Africa.
In 2009, the Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust honored Gibbs for his more than three decades of articles, exhibits and presentations on the military heritage of Africans and African Americans.

Related Experiences: As an educator, Ms. Campbell is a math specialist and studies Egyptology. She is bilingual and speaks French fluently, as well as understands and interprets Ancient Egyptian texts. Ms. Campbell is also a native Washingtonian with extensive knowledge of DC history and is a licensed tour guide. She has lived and taught all over the world, in places such as Pacific Islands, Brazil, China, France, Senegal and Sri Lanka. Also, Ms. Campbell served as a Peace Corp volunteer and has a background in broadcasting as a former radio host for WPFW and WDCU.

Related Experiences: Asha Johnson is a Howard University student majoring in journalism. She has volunteered as a teacher assistant in New York City Public Schools in Queens, New York and has worked with Heads Up as a tutor in DC as well as a tutor/mentor for youth the Columbia Heights YWCA program located in DC. Ms. Johnson served as a DC City Council intern in community leadership roles and as a summer outreach organizer for youth at risk as well as tutored children in an orphanage during a six week culture and language youth leadership program in Africa sponsored by the state department. Also, Ms. Johnson worked as a young journalist in high school involved in The Pittsburgh Media Frank Bolden Urban Journalism summer workshops and was awarded The Free Spirit Medal in journalism as a semi finalist at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Conference as a reporter for Young DC Newspaper.

Related Experiences: He is a 16 year old visual artist, author and self publisher of three visual art books dedicated to the work of great writers. By working with I SAW! The Experience of Learning in DC, as a visual artist, lead researcher and a team leader, Khari Eyen Zame seeks to develop "A History Beneath Us ...." as a project based learning experience to further discover, document, highlight and restore the legacy of D.C.’s Black residents’ past in collaboration with a team of new young researchers. Mr. Johnson previously participated in the Smithsonian Museum’s Art Lab Video Program on a documentary about Ruins in D.C. in a team with two other high school students. He created his footage on the three hundred year old abandoned Black cemetery in Georgetown after developing an idea to explore the tombs stones in Rock Creek Park in D.C. The full documentary on Ruins submitted by his team was screened at the Lerner Room in the Hirshorn Museum. Mr. Johnson studied art in multiple mediums at The Art League in Virginia and has taken various disciplines in art classes since the age of four. He has co-produce "On The Greenroof" an environmental documentary for AU's online website through American University's Discover the World of Communications summer program. Mr. Johnson, also has written several articles as a literary critic and reporter for Young DC , a teen newspaper covering stories in the Washington metropolitan area of D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
