DC Community Based Project Outcomes:
As a result of his interest in the cemetery, during the summers of 2011 and 2012 Mr. Johnson collaborated in a community based project with approximately 30 teens that became high school lead researchers and middle school research teams from diverse neighborhoods in the District of
Columbia where he lives to do more extensive research. "A History Beneath Us..."was implemented as a project of the LIVING IMAGES IN MY WORLD program. Finally, the research produced a way for students to bring a solution to help preserve and maintain the honor of the cemetery by finding and uncovering the lost identities of African American Civil War Veterans. The presence of African America Civil War Veterans can promote The Veterans Administration to provide new tombstones and if enough names possibly a memorial. Now the project is ongoing in its quest to find the identity and legacy of more names on the Mt. Zion /Female Union Band burial grounds. http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-SAW-The-Experience-of-Learning-Global-Communities-TM/177105239052296
